A dry cough echoes off the wooden walls of a tiny hut.
Marie's husband Thomas is tired and aching all over, but she does not know how to help him.
Sixty five year old Thomas wants to be well again – especially since their way of living depends the income of what they are able to farm and sell.
This income is barely sufficient for their needs, or even proper medical care.
Thomas suffered through diabetes and a bad case of tuberculosis a year ago. However, medical care at the village health center, proved expensive.
Thomas and Marie's children are unable to help their parents out financially and so Thomas resorted to traditional, homespun remedies.
When someone told him about the free medical care offered at the Hand of Hope Health Center, Thomas was thrilled.
He soon made the journey from his village to the Hand of Hope Health Center on his old bicycle.
The Hand of Hope doctors examined him, diagnosed high blood pressure and prescribed the appropriate medication. They made sure that he would return for follow up treatments and Thomas left with a light and happy heart.
A grateful Thomas is humbled and amazed by the love shown to him by the Hand of Hope team.
